Geocache Description:


Having desended from the ridge, Prairie Heritage Trail now winds along the base of a steep, east facing slope for more than a mile. At the northern end, overhanging trees shade the sandstone, keeping it fairly moist. Here spring wildflowers are exceptionally lovely and include columbine, bloodroot, Dutchman's breeches, rock cress, plus several different ferns and mosses. Towards the southern end where the unshaded slope is drier, prairie plants can be noted, especially in late summer. Most prominent are spiderwort, blazing star, bushclover and little bluestem grass.
