Geocache Description:

Its the scenery and the adventure

On both sides of this roadcut, created in 1956, the transition from limestone at the top to St. Peter sandstone on the bottom is easy to see. Woodchucks live in small natural caves in the stone. On the sandy rock faces, field goldenrod and wormwood grow and on top of the western hill a large stand of prairie dock occurs. On the undisturbed, tree shaded ledge on the east side of the road are shooting- stars, violet oxalis, columbine and polypody ferns. These small evergreen ferns grow on many of the shaded rock outcroppings seen on the trail.
