My favorite artists – Mike Scott
Mike Scott (Edinburgh, 1958) is een Schotse songwriter, die vooral bekendheid verwierf met ‘zijn’ band “The Waterboys” (van de hit : The whole of the moon).
Sinds het uitkomen van hun eerste album in 1983, is deze band albums blijven maken. In 2020 kwam hun 14e studio-album uit, genaamd “Good luck, seeker”. Mike is de stuwende kracht achter The Waterboys, waarvan de bezetting regelmatig wisselt. Enige vrij constante factor door de jaren heen, is de Ierse viool-virtuoos Steve Wickham.
De muziek is duidelijk geïnspireerd door Ierse invloeden, de teksten zijn vaak diepgaand en haast literair; Mike is een groot bewonderaar van de Ierse dichter W.B. Yeats.
Inmiddels heeft Mike ook twee solo-albums op zijn naam staan.

Mike is the driving force behind The Waterboys, whose occupation changes regularly. Some fairly constant factor over the years, is the Irish fiddle virtuoso Steve Wickham.
The music is clearly inspired by Irish influences, the lyrics are often profound and almost literary; Mike is a great admirer of the Irish poet WB Yeats.
