Walnut Grove Treasure Traditional Cache
Please note Use of geocaching.com services is subject to the terms and conditions
in our disclaimer.
Located in an abandoned cemetary near Chittnango, NY. Terrain is mildly hilly and somewhat overgrown with myrtle, but there are paths, if you look closely!
From Fayetteville (or Syracuse, for that matter) follow Rt. 5 east to Chittnango, turn right on Brinkerhoff Hill, then a quick left onto Dyke Rd. Proceed about 1.2 miles down Dyke Rd. to an open grassy area on your right. There is a sign there noting that this is the Walnut Grove Cemetary. Keep looking... you'll see it eventually. (Update note, 4/11/04 - The hills have been somewhat cleared of trees and overgrowth - it's MUCH easier to spot now.) (Alternately, you can access Dyke Rd. from Rt. 13, just before entering the business area of Chittnango. The sign is about .3 miles up Dyke Rd., on the LEFT, this way.)The cache is a standard ammo box (recently switched from a round green Tupperware-type bowl.) It is not ON a gravesite, though it is near a few. (This is one of the few places in this sadly overlooked graveyard that actually LOOKS like you are in a cemetary.) Tree cover may give your GPS some small degree of trouble, but it shouldn't be too terribly hard to get a fix once you are near the right loacation. Cache is under a tannish stone, slightly concealed with other stones. (Please replace as nearly as possible to this setup.)
