Geocache Description:

Koropupu community sports park opened in 2015 to coinside with the FIFA games being hosted in Whangarei. 

There are two enterances to the park, one on Pipiwai road, the other on Kamo Road (just south of Cowleys). 

This will be a high muggle area during winter sports season

The fields were named Koropupu Community Sports Park, following consultation with Ngati Kahu o Torongare and the Ngararatunua Marae.

“Koropupu means ‘bubbling warm waters known to help relax the mind and body’ and recognises that this area has been nationally and internationally known for the recuperative value of its mineral springs.”

The four new fields will be used extensively by community sports groups, the general public, community groups and for events like the FIFA U-20 World Cup which occured in 2015.

The park’s core tenant, the Kamo Soccer Club, worked hard to see the new facility, which will be known as the “Kamo Football Hub”, completed.
