The first school opened in the District in 1876. Records show that children attended lesons and that the school came to be called Ararimu Valley School and the building later became the church.
This school closed in 18902. Another building at the other end of the District was named the Upper Ararimu School and this was used from 1883. In 1922 this school also closed and the building was moved down into the Valley. The Church that used to be at this site is now part of the Howick Historical village and a plaque has been placed here, as there were some unmarked graves here.
