Another Calgary history (CH) series geocache from myself although this has only become historical in the very recent past.

Highland Golf and Country Club came into being in 1965, shut down in 2011 and and then sold in 2013 to a group which intends to redevelop the site. Since it was shut down, the site has not been maintained aside from the occasional mowing of some of the fairways and driving range and it is surprising how quickly nature is taking over as coyotes, deer and other animals are regularly seen on the site. It has also become a large unofficial dog park for those in the know as there is never anyone about that will chase you off of these lands.

So to sort of preserve Highland Golf and Country Club's memory, I have placed this geocache and it also happens to be my first CCARS cache. It should not prove to be a difficult cache and should be accessible at all times - of particular note, you may have seen a number of vacant lots on the south side of McKnight Boulevard in this vicinity. These lots are vacant because the city of Calgary is quietly buying up properties on the south side of McKnight Boulevard as they become available in order to facilitate an easier expansion of McKnight Boulevard in the future. This is also happening in the community of Highwood as well as to a lesser extent in Thorncliffe.

As this cache is a micro, it will only have space for a small log - you will have to bring your own pen or pencil as this cache is too small to contain any type of writing instrument. Please also leave this geocache in the exact spot you found it so as to make the search just as much fun for the next person - movement of this cache to any other location in this vicinity will make the reveal much too easy for the next seeker.

There is plenty of parking available in the immediate area of the cache location.
