Welcome to RNZAF Wigram! Diagonally across the road from this Cache was No 3 Technical Training School (No 3TTS). This was the main Support Training establishment for the RNZAF. Here all Airmen & Airwomen employed in the Support Trades - Supply, Admin, Accounts, Provosts (Police) Chefs & Stewards, Firemen, Physical Fitness Instructors, Drivers, Publication Specialists (I hope I haven't missed any out) - came and did their Trade Training. Chefs / Stewards, Firemen and PTI's were Tri-Service training, so Navy and Army also did their training here. So you can imagine it was a pretty busy place with trainees coming and going.
With the closure of Wigram in the mid 90’s, 3TTS and 2TTS (avionics school) were relocated to RNZAF Woodbourne, where they were merged with 4TTS (aircraft trade school), and formed the Ground Training Wing. Officer Training also relocated to Woodbourne, so now every Officer and OR (other rank) start their RNZAF career at Woody Valley, and most will stay on to do their Trade Training.
Later on in my career I did a tour at GTW as a Supply Trade Instructor, and then spent a year at GSTS (Recruit School) instructing on Cpl, Sgt and Flt Sgt promotion Courses. Best fun ever.
