This cache has been placed on another track that we found in a previous life as "smitten" 4WDrivers. It is a pretty spot quite high on the ridge overlooking the dam, though the water is not visible from here. The geology here is as you would expect to find in a gold mining area.
I first learnt of Captains Flat while reading my father's Family History. He had written how his father and youngest brother rode their bikes down here from Bargo during the Depression to look for gold so that Grandma had fewer mouths to feed. They obviously had little success as there were no huge family riches, of the monetary kind, passed on.
It has been placed as compensation for all those fellow cachers who cannot make their way to GC6BNPJ . It also acts as a waypoint for those hardy souls who intend to tackle that cache.
