Assume N44 58.xxx W78 17.E6 W6 E6 Home to one of only a handful of mines in Canada to have been worked commercially for gemstones, Highlands East has long drawn travelling rockhounds in search of a bit of bling, but it also happens to host one of the highest concentrations of rare mineral species in all of Ontario’s Highlands. Claiming the mineral rights at several locations, the Municipality of Highlands East took the unprecedented step of becoming Ontario’s first municipality ever to hold mineral claims, ensuring lasting public access to more great mineral collecting opportunities. Only a few minutes drive of each other, the Desmont Mine, Schickler Flourite occurrence, Essonville Roadcut and Titanite Hill are just a few of the rewarding public destinations you can visit. Stop by the information centre in Wilberforce to get your rock hunting adventure started. Note: Due to logging in the area, this cache was moved on Oct. 1, 2021. The puzzle and checker were updated to reflect the new location.
