The Beech Tree is in abundance in Plymouth and several local roads are also named after trees, see if you can find them all. Beech trees can live for hundreds of years and can grow to 40 metres high. It's young leaves are lime green with silky hairs. They are stalked, oval and have a pointed tip. Because they live so long they provide good habitats for hole nesting birds and wood boring insects.
The Beech tree is sometimes known as queen of British trees with the Oak being the King.
