Geocache Description:

This cache is placed near what was a level crossing at Whitegates for the Monkland and Kirkintilloch Railway. This was an early mineral railway running from a colliery at Monklands to the Forth and Clyde Canal at Kirkintilloch. It was the first public railway in Scotland, and the first in Scotland to use locomotive power successfully, and it was a major influence in the successful development of the Lanarkshire iron industry. It opened in 1826.

The puzzle combines my wife's job of navigating to caches and her love of crocheting while I hunt around in the mud for the prize.

Solve this puzzle by counting the number of stitches in each round of the pattern for a small crochet heart.

Note the number of stitches in each round then input into the coordinates below.

Create a magic ring and chain 2...

Rnd 1: (3 tr, 4 dc, 1 tr, 4 dc, 3 tr) into magic ring. Pull the magic ring mostly closed, leaving a small space in the middle, ch 2 (ch2 does not count as stitches) 1 sl st into the remaining hole in the magic ring. Pull the magic ring tightly closed.
(Note: do not turn work, continue working anti-clockwise (clockwise for left-handers) around the heart, working into the stitches of Rnd 1, and starting by working into the ch-sp formed by the ch 2 you made after the magic ring.)
Rnd 2: 1 sc in ch-sp, 2 hdc in next st, 3 hdc in next st, 2 hdc in next st, 1 hdc, 1 hdc, 1 hdc, 2 hdc in next st, (1 hdc, 1 dc, 1 hdc) in next st, 2 hdc in next st, 1 hdc, 1 hdc, 1 hdc, 2 hdc in next st, 3 hdc in next st, 2 hdc in next st, (1 sc, 1 sl st) in ch-sp.
Rnd 3: 1 sc in next st, 1 sc in next st, 1 sc in next st, 2 sc in next st, 1 sc in next st, 2 sc in next st, 1 sc in next st, 2 sc in next st, sc in next 6 st, 3 sc in next st, sc in next 6 st, 2 sc in next st, 1 sc in next st, 2 sc in next st, 1 sc in next st, 2 sc in next st, 1 sc in next st, 1 sc in next 2 st. Join with 1 sl st into first st.

Number of stitches in Rnd 1 = A

Number of stitches in Rnd 2 = B

Number of stitches in Rnd 3 = C

N55 5(B/6).(A/2)(A/8)((B/15)x2), W004 (C-30).((C/3)-12)(B/5)(A-15)

There are 2 completed crochet heart brooches in the cache for the FTF and STF :) Remeber a pencil!

We'd love to see a photo if anyone follows the pattern to create the crochet heart.

Well done to WoodyTeam FTF!
