We geven het toe: er zijn geen 58 parken in Knokke-Heist. Het duingebied dankt zijn ongewoon cijfer aan de wereldexpo van 1958. Fondsen uit de Expo werden aangewend om een deel van dit duingebied in te richten als park. Een ander deel van het duingebied bleef evenwel onaangeroerd en precies in deze originele duingedeeltes zijn qua flora het meest interessant. Ondanks zijn vrij kleine oppervlakte behoort dit duingebied tot de natuurpareltjes van onze kust.

Let’s admit at once that Knokke-Heist doesn’t have 58 parks! The dune area owes its unusual number to the World Exhibition of 1958. Funds from the Exhibition were used to convert part of this dune area into a park. However, another section of the dune area was left untouched and it is precisely those original dune sections which are the most interesting as regards flora. Despite its fairly small surface, this dune area is one of the natural gems of our coast.
To-do tip: Look for 10 different animals in Park 58.
