I grew up in Bassano and the area around there including Gem has many fond memories for me. It was a great place to live and I still feel a bit jealous of those who do live in this area but I often have a chance to return to my roots and to re-live those memories.
To get to Gem, Alberta, from here, just head south about 7.3 km at 153.4 degrees and along the way find the other caches in this small series started by the Dancing Ducklings.
If instead, you are looking for Gem, Kansas, go to Gem, Alberta and then go 1554 km at 141.2 degrees. Of course, if you do go to Kansas, you probably should find Mingo (GC30), the world's oldest cache which is about 17 km south of Gem, Kansas.
