Geocache Description:

Two roads diverged in a wood, and I -
I took the one less traveled by,
And that has made all the difference.

It's always interesting to me to see how wildlife adapts to the presence of humans and to our interference in their affairs. In this case, a tree found itself dealing with an irritant of human origin, and found a way to work around it that I find rather interesting. When you see it, the title of this cache will make a lot more sense!

At first, when wandering through this newly opened preserve, I noted this side trail and wondered where it went and, more importantly, why there weren't any caches along it. On a subsequent visit, I followed it as far as I could, and spotted a number of excellent hiding spots along the way. But this one spot in particular called to me. It's probably 30-40 feet off-trail, within reach of a geotrail, and should not be too tough to get to. The terrain rating of 2.5 is probably fairly accurate, as there is a bit of a steep climb for that last 30-40'.

You are looking for a rather small cache, not quite a nano, but it shouldn't be too tough to spot once you are in the right area. There is no room for any writing implement in the container, so please bring your own.

Please note the following:

* The "Dangerous Animals" attribute is set for a reason. Rattlesnakes have been spotted not too far from this cache. Although this probably wouldn't be their first choice for places to hide, I cannot rule out the possibility, so please watch where you step and/or reach!
* There is no need to bypass any gates, fences, hay bales, or other blockages to reach GZ. Do not bypass the gate at the trail's end - it is not necessary and you may end up trespassing.
* There is rusty barbed wire in the area near GZ. If you feel the need to handle it, please use caution! Gloves may prove handy.
* I did not see any PO in the vicinity of GZ or along the route. There is, however, what appears to be a patch of nettles mixed in with the miner's lettuce growing alongside the geotrail to the left as you face uphill. (I am not 100% sure whether they are truly nettles or not and I did not choose to touch them to find out!) They are easily avoidable, and the cache is not hidden anywhere near them. When in doubt, stick to the geotrail.
* No significant force is necessary to find or retrieve the cache. There is no need to pull, yank, or break anything.
* Please do not detach the container from the attachment device, except for the minimal amount necessary to access the log, and please be sure to reposition it as it was so that it is out of sight.

I'm not sure I'd recommend this cache for anyone with serious mobility issues, but here's my handicaching.com rating of H45522 anyway:
