Jefferson is a community that sits on Rt 60 between St. Albans and South Charleston. In the past this area was known as the Badlands because of the bars and clubs that operated here and the trouble they brought. There is a wide variety of businesses in this community and there have been attempts to annex it several times but none successful. In 1997 they decided to become a town to protect it but in 2007 it was disolved and the community is now run by a group of businness leaders and citizens. The plaza you are in, Jackson Plaza, was named after the first mayor. There are two markers at the entrance in front of you marking the town founding. I served on the volunteer fire department here for four years.
