Geocache Description:

Just when you thought it was safe to go caching again...

This is one of a series of themed caches in this area. This is an easy cache with a nice view and a bit of history. During WW2, up to 150,000 troops were camped around the district prior to being sent to the front and again after their return. In this area the highly decorated 9th Division 2nd AIF trained for Jungle Warfare in preparation for deployment to PNG and Borneo. Interesting facts from this area include: The existence of several Signal Corps Pigeon Lofts, used amongst other things to send emergency communications from the Gillies Range Gatekeepers to the Army regarding security of the range road; and The siting of a military stockade at the junction of Wasp and Mick Creeks, now underwater but these two creeks are the lake arms visible from this location. There is no need to enter private property. Please replace the cache exactly as you find it. At the time of publishing, this cache contained only a few small themed swaps. Congratulations on FTF to Team Bombas. Enjoy the view!
