Geocache Description:

Introduction

See Green Chain #1 for cache trail introduction.

Route

Keep following the path along the edge of the golf club, which will take you right behind the allotments and eventually bring you out at a tennis club. You need to detour a little from the Green Chain route to find the cache.

Description

The tennis club that you are passing celebrated its centenary in 2008.

At the turn of the 20th Century, lawn tennis was well established as a competitive sport. A small number of local residents decided to form a tennis and croquet club. Soon it became one of the leading clubs in Kent and held its first open tournament in 1914. In 1936 the Club built two squash courts on its land, even though the rules of the game had only just been established - apparently the first squash courts built outside of London.

This area of woodland is known as Milk Street Woods and was also used as allotments during the war.

The Cache
