This beautiful cemetery is a lovely place to reflect and remember loved ones and people who made a difference. This cache is placed in honor of one of those people, singer Natalie Cole, and named for one of her biggest hits.
On December 31, 2015, the world lost a great artist in singer / songwriter Natalie Cole.
Cole was born February 6, 1950 to singer Nat "King" Cole and his wife Maria Hawkins, herself a singer who performed with Duke Ellington. One of five children, Natalie was exposed to the best jazz, blues and rock singers of the time due to her parents' high musical profile. At age 6 she sang on her father's Christmas album and began performing in earnest at age 11.
After graduating from the University of Massachusetts Amherst with a degree in Child Psychology and a minor in German, she began performing in clubs and grabbed the attention of producers who took recordings of her work to Capital Records, who signed her. In 1975, she released her first album, Inseparable, which contained one her biggest hits, "This Will Be". That year she won Grammys for Best New Artist and Best Female R&B Vocal Performance.
In the 80's, Natalie descended into drug addiction and her career slumped as a result. However, after a six month stay in rehab and recovery, she recorded Bruce Springsteen's "Pink Cadillac" which became a hit immediately. Her best selling album was 1991's "Unforgettable....with Love", a collection of songs recorded by her father. Her label released an interactive video featuring Natalie's performance interwoven with video and audio of her father singing with her. This album garnered her several Grammys, including Album of the Year, Record of the Year, and Best Traditional Pop Vocal Performance.
In all, Natalie won 9 Grammys and had a prolific career. She died of congestive heart failure on December 31, 2015 in Los Angeles, CA
