NEUE HEIMAT - Die Burgen Mystery Cache

This Cache is about the two castles, or castle ruins, in the town of Gerolstein. We looked for a place where you can see both of them.

Zunächst haben wir am Verstecktag vor Ort mit unserem Magnetkompass die Nordrichtung ermittelt. Wenn man von dort nun 90,64° nach links schaut, sieht man oberhalb des Ortszentrums die über 900 Jahre alte Löwenburg (auch Burg Gerolstein oder Burg Gerhardstein).

Jetzt schwenkt Eure Augen um 105,16° nach rechts und Ihr habt die ungefähr gleich alte Kasselburg im Blick – oder zumindest deren Oberteil. Diese liegt beim Ortsteil Pelm.

Die oben angegebenen Koordinaten weisen im Übrigen nur auf den Bahnhof von Gerolstein. Der mag zwar als Burg durchgehen, den Cache findet Ihr dort aber bestimmt nicht.

Je nachdem, welche Tools Ihr zur Verfügung habt, schwankt der Schwierigkeitsgrad für die Koordinatenermittlung zwischen einigermaßen anspruchsvoll und relativ trivial. Der im Listing angegebene Wert von 3* kann also genau so gut als zu gering oder als zu hoch empfunden werden.
Es gibt auch mehrere Lösungswege, wobei die Ergebnisse geringfügig unterschiedlich ausfallen können. Aus diesem Grund haben wir beim Hint die jeweils richtige Endziffer der Nachkommastellen für Nord und Ost-Koordinate angegeben. Ihr könnt Ihr uns aber auch gerne über GC kontaktieren.

First of all we have determined the North direction on the hiding day using our magnetic compass. Now then looking 90.64° to the left you will spot the Löwenburg (also Burg Gerolstein or Burg Gerhardstein).

Then turn your eyes 105.16° to the right and the Kasselburg – or at least it’s top - will come into sight.

The coordinates listed above show to the train station of Gerolstein. This might be taken for a castle as well, but you surely will not find the cache there.

Depending on which tools you have at your disposal, the difficulty ranges from somewhat ambitious to rather trivial. Thus the rating of 3* in the listing might be considered too high or too low as well.
There are even several approaches for finding the coordinates the results possibly being slightly different. For that reason we added the proper last decimal place for North and East to the hint. Feel free to contact us via GC as well.
