U.S.C.I. Multi-Cache

74vwBus: Anything that deals with history or anything that deals with military is a favorite of mine. So when you combined the two, I really enjoyed this one. The history is very solid here and sobering.

Geocache Description:

U.S.C.I. also known as the United States Colored Infantry.

When the Civil War began in 1861, black men simply could not serve in the US Army. Abolitionists like Frederick Douglas called for soldier, but federal officials first refused, fearing a backlash in pro-slavery states.
But on January 1, 1863, with the war dragging into it's third year, Abraham Lincoln issued the Emanicipation Prolocamation and declared all black residents of the Confederate states were free. His decision opened the door for African-American  military recruitment. And Altoona, black residents heeded the call.
Of all the Northern states, none contributed more men to the so-called US Colored Troops than Pennsylvania. Blair County which had hosted secret stops on the Underground Railroad before the war, proved a fertile recruiting ground.
Among the recruits were men like Charles Robinson. George Irons, George W Lyons, William A Brown, Floyd Carter, and Henry Murphy.

This is a fairly easy two stage multi. Use that info to obtain the coordinates for the second/final stage. Stage 2 is a regular sized screw lid container wrapped in camo duct tape.

You will need to locate the six headstones of the men listed above, Once you locate their headstones, take note of their Regiment number. All Regiment numbers are two digits and are followed by U.S.C.I.
