The Passaic River Ramble Traditional Cache

This cache has been archived.

The BeeGees: Well, It's gone alright. I hiked out there this afternoon. The nature trail that the township made back in 2001 is gone too. It was never maintained and just got overgrown with vegetation. Today I tried to follow the general area of the original path but recent flooding and ice pushed me inland a bit. It also made the drainage crossings a little more challenging. On the bright side - no mosquitoes today!
The area surrounding the cache site looked like an ice skating rink with trees in it. As I got closer I quickly spied the tree that previously held the cache. Surrounding the tree were several boot and paw prints. Based on that, I'd say Jeeeper1 found the cache location but had no log book to sign. I call that a find and he has my permission to change his note to a "found it".
A special note of thanks and appreciation to those who took the time and effort to find this cache in some challenging terrain. This was no cache and dash.

Geocache Description:

In the summer of 2001, Longhill Township established the "Passaic River Nature Trail" which runs alongside the river for a total length of 3.5 miles. The cache is located off of this trail

The trail can be accessed from 2 locations. The first access is a small pulloff on Valley Rd. near River Rd. For the second access take South Main to the end. South Main is a bumpy dirt road. In case you were thinking of it, South Northfield Rd. is clearly marked "No Trespassing" and "No Parking Anytime". The cache is located about two miles from either entrance. The trail is sparsely marked and has become a bit overgrown with vegetation. There are a few drainage ditch crossings. This area will become flooded and very muddy on a rainy day. Take the usual mosquitoe and tick precautions. This trail gives you a nice opportunity to see the scenic Passaic River, not too far from its headwaters in Mendham.
