This rural county highway follows the path of the Old Federal Road. Originally a treacherous postal route through Creek Indian territory, the Old Federal Road was widened in 1811 to allow wagon travel. As more and more settlers arrived, communities like Uchee formed. Uchee was large enough to accommodate two churches: Uchee Chapel Methodist and the nearby Good Hope Baptist. Though much of it has disappeared, portions of the old road still exist in Alabama, either as public roads or trails through private property.
