#24 Drug Alphabet Series

This series combines two of my favourite "hobbies" - drugs and geocaching. It will inform you about some drugs ie. medicines that you may come across in your lifetime, treating a wide range of medical conditions; and also take you to some interesting places on the Sunshine Coast that you may not have been to before.

Xylometazoline (C₁₆H₂₄N₂)  is used to relieve nasal congestion associated with rhinitis (runny nose), common cold or sinusitis. It is an intranasal sympathomimetic decongestant which produces vasoconstriction in nasal mucosa, thereby decreasing nasal blood flow and congestion. Common side effects include transient burning, stinging, increased nasal discharge and rebound congestion with prolonged use (>5 days). Extended use can result in decreased effectiveness as the number of receptors in the nasal mucosa decreases and when the drug is ceased, chronic congestion can occur, called rhinitis medicamentosa. Long term overdosing can cause degenerative changes in the nasal mucous membranes.

This cache overlooks an interesting billabong along a quiet stretch of road close to the missing link. It is a round plastic container.
