Russells Water Traditional Cache

This cache has been archived.

Team MMK: There's been quite a bit of the ivy cleared from this wall now, particularly around the spot where the cache was hidden and it looks like the cache has gone too. Had a good rummage around in what was left and checked the ground both sides of the wall but no cache to be seen. There are much better places to hide one in this area and despite it being put out to bring people to this delightful spot, it's time for it to go. Thanks to Team Lankidden for originally placing it.

Geocache Description:

Russells Water is a delightful Hamlet set on the edge of Russells Water and Maidensgrove Common, part of The Chilterns AONB. There is a very attractive village pond, where the ducks, and indeed the fish seem to be very well fed by visiting children. At the right time of year, parts of the pond are almost solid with newly spawned Goldfish

Russells Water Village Pond

Apart from being a very pleasant place to just sit and watch the world go by, the Russells Water Village Pond has a well loved place in film history, as it was the location for several scenes in the film of Ian Flemming's "Chitty Chitty Band Bang, indeed it was into this very pond that Truly Scrumptious a couple of times dunked the car ! !

Russells Water is a particularly lovely village hidden well off the beaten track, within the Chilterns AONB, which we try to visit three or four times a year to walk our dog on the common, and so we thought to place a Cache so as to bring a few other visitors to this delightful location. This could be a simple Cache & Dash, but hopefully, once found and logged, time will allow of just a few minutes to sit, ponder, and indeed, to watch the world go by.

Parking is relatively easy on the roadside opposite the Village Hall as you approach the pond, if coming from the direction of Watlington. We apologise for the location of the Cache, but as the reason for placing it is to encourage visits to the village, perhaps we can be forgiven. However as it is placed alongside the road, do be aware of passing traffic. You are looking for a small camouflaged container, containing just the log and pencil, but large enough for small TBs and trinkets.
