"Sawing logs" just means to be asleep and snoring loudly, imitating the sound of a chainsaw cutting logs.
I was born and raised in Texas. I was surrounded by family and friends that had all sorts of interesting sayings for things. Where else to share old country sayings? Why, the country, of course!
