Geocache Description:

The 1st or last of a series of 9  varied caches which follow the Ledbury Town Trail.

The majority of route follows the old Ledbury and Gloucester Railway. This route is also known as the Daffodil Line because it was used to transport locals down to Gloucester to pick daffodils every spring! It was originally designed to run from Ledbury to Ross and then on to Gloucester.

The railway was built by two companies, the Newent Railway and the Ross and Ledbury Railway. Most of the line was built over the route of the southern section of the Hereforshire and Gloucester canal, which was leased to the Great Western Railway (GWR) in 1863, due to financial problems. It was then converted into a railway and opened on 27 July 1885.

By the 1920s there were five trains each way on weekdays. The line closed to passenger traffic in 1959, with the Dymock to Gloucester section remaining open to goods traffic only until 1964.

Parking can be found free at Railway Station but alternatively you could start in the middle of the route from town and form a larger route which circles around the side of the River Leadon taking in some more caches on the way.
