The school celebrated its 30th year here on the montain, on Sept. 15, 2015. Only three days after the start of the Valley Fire.I am very glad that it made it through the fire!

The vision of Cobb Mountain Elementary was to integrate outdoor education with science curriculum with outdoor learning experiences. Faculty and instructional aides received training in Project Wild and Project Learning Tree. Cobb School is located adjacent to a 40 acre section of Boggs Mountain State Demonstration Forest, and soon after the school opened, a series of nature trails were constructed. These trail loops have been extensively used by the school students over the years. Later, an adjacent outdoor amphitheater and school garden were added. The outdoor education program has seen tremendous growth in the school garden over the past 7 years, which now includes a paid garden aide to help bring the students into the garden every week.
I enjoyed a short, but nice hike through this little forest. I was amazed at how fast the fire must have moved through this undergrowth. There were places where old stumps completely burned into the ground. They must have been burning for days after the fire. Some day it will all come back!
This cache is down the trail up in the bolder field in a very old oak stump. You can't miss it!
Hope that you enjoy your nice little walk in the woods.
You can park in the parking lot on the weekends. The best way to get to the trail head is when you are standing in the parking lot looking at the front of the school, go to the left around the gate and past the school. There you will find the trail head.
