Geocache Description:

Very special stones in London

These Stones you have here before yourselves are in London something quite exotic. Around here there is a lot of Portland limestone to see. Its age can be determined, relatively easily, by the inclusions . However, in the stones which lie here there are no such inclusions. Hence, it was very difficult and has taken a long time to determine the age.

This freshwater stone originated from Calciumcarbonat of resigning waters of hard springs. To waters was taken away by water plants CO2 by which lime was precipitated and deposited in layers. Lime surrounded the plants which died. This led to the fact that numerous pores originated in this rock. Haematite was stored and the red pigmentation typical for this natural stone originated. Periodical lime depositions caused the clearly recognizable pattern of this natural Stone
