A long time ago there used to be an Arboretum at this location! It used to contain many magnificent trees. However, it has been totally annihilated. Not only has it been chopped down - but the 2003 fires also ripped through it! Sadly, other than large piles of logs, not much remains of the arboretum - and the Australian bush is quickly taking over!
However – around GZ, you will find that it takes more than all that to kill off a Chestnut tree! Around GZ you will find a few chestnut trees attempting to make a comeback!
The new Canberra Arboretum also has a chestnut plot (plot 36), however, they are the non-edible horse chestnuts!
