DESCRIBED BY THE GCHR GEOCACHIC SERVICE 2016. THIS STATION IS SITUATED IN CHARLES CITY COUNTY, VIRGINIA. TO REACH THE STATION FROM HEATHROW AIRPORT, UK, EMPLOY A PRIVATELY CHARTERED JET FOR 5984.7 KM (3718.7 MI) ON A GREAT CIRCLE COURSE OF 286.74 DEGREES TRUE UNTIL DIRECTLY OVERHEAD VIRGINIA CAPITOL TRAIL MILE MARKER 14. PROCEED IN A DOWNWARDLY DIRECTION FOR 8.0 KM (5.0 MI, PARACHUTE RECOMMENDED) TO MM 14. CONTINUE ALONG THE TRAIL IN A WEST BY NORTHWESTERLY DIRECTION UNTIL REACHING THE FOOTBRIDGE, UNDER WHICH THE PARACHUTE MAY BE STASHED. CONTINUE WESTERLY A FEW STEPS TO THE BENCH ON THE SOUTHERN SIDE OF THE TRAIL. THE BENCH IS AFFIXED TO A BRICK PATIO. THE STATION IS A 2 INCH DISK SET IN CONCRETE, APPROXIMATELY AT GROUND LEVEL. IT IS LOCATED 3 STEPS EAST BY SOUTHEST OF THE SOUTHEAST CORNER OF THE BENCH PATIO AND 3 AND A HALF STEPS NORTHEAST OF THE TELEPHONE POLE AND MAY BE COVERED BY LEAF DEBRIS.

Retrieving the Geocache


Lift the concrete in which the cache is embedded straight up. Carefully remove the cache and sign the log. Re-embed the cache into the concrete. Carefully return the concrete to the location in which you found it.

Control Text


  • The horizontal coordinates were established by GPS observations and adjusted by the National Geodetic Survey in September 1995.
  • The NAVD 88 height was computed by applying the VERTCON shift value to the NGVD 29 height (displayed under SUPERSEDED SURVEY CONTROL.)
  • The X, Y, and Z were computed from the position and the ellipsoidal ht.
  • The Laplace correction was computed from DEFLEC99 derived deflections.
  • The ellipsoidal height was determined by GPS observations and is referenced to NAD 83.
  • The geoid height was determined by GEOID99.
