Named after Richard Heaton, an English convict who became a timber cutter in the area, Heaton Forest Park is a wonderful location to bring the family for a picnic. The magnificent coastal and mountain views provide a majestic backdrop, as well as offering two walking trails which commence from the forest park...the Heaton Loop Trail and the Watagan Trail.
The cache will bring you a creek crossing along the walking trail from McLean's Lookout to Heaton's Lookout (6.5kms). Whilst you will no doubt encounter a few leeches along the trail, this is where they particularly like to play. Don't hang around too long or they will get you!. The walking trail has some steep gradients, but you won't have to leave the trail until it's time to retrieve the cache. This area can be quite slippery, so take caution when climbing around on wet rocks. The cache container is an ammo can.
