Geocache Description:

This geocache is of significant historical interest. It is one of many way-markers along the route traveled by Sir Percy FitzPatrick and his faithful dog, Jock.

'Jock of the Bushveld' is a book written by Percy FitzPatrick, a transport rider, about his adventures with Jock, a Staffordshire Bull Terrier. It takes place in the Lowveld during the time of the gold rush in the 1880's and is well worthwhile reading.

The village of Sabie was one of the places where the transport riders would outspan on their journey between Lydenburg and Delagoa Bay. From the geocache position, walk over the road and parking area towards the Anglican church and you will see one of the Jock way-markers. Near it, towards the bank, is an original steel tethering post used back in the day.
