At the posted coordinates you will see a tower on a hill. Why is it here? When was it built? Those curious to find out answers to these "big" questions can read the newspaper article at the link below (not necessary to find cache). The answer may surprise you, however.
To get the final coordinates, answer the following easy questions:
- How many windows are on the north side of the tower (which faces the road)? Call this "A".
- What color is the tower painted? If it is white, then B=9, if it is green, B=7, if it is yellow, B=5.
- How many windows are on the east side of the tower (the other side you can see from the posted coordinates)? Call this "C". It it's hard to see because of leaves, an alternative question is: look at the stop sign nearby.
Find th 4-digit street address on it. What is the first digit of that number?
The final coordinates are N 45 05.AAB W064 17.3BC. You can check your answers by verifying that A+B+C = 12
Or just enter the 3 numbers that correspond to ABC in the checker below (eg if A=5, B=9, C=2, enter 392)
You can validate your puzzle solution with
certitude.
This article in the Kings County Register / Advertiser ("Purpose of Trenholm Hill Tower a mystery") gives an interesting history of the tower, and answers some of the mysteries. See also this story: https://edwingcoleman.com/2013/09/16/purpose-of-trenholm-hill-tower-a-mystery-september-1613/ . Both articles, especially the second one, are well worth a look. I learned that "The gentleman who had the tower constructed was the late Harry Trenholm. He employed Havelock Brown to build it." It was likely built around 1902. Because it's on private property (with no trespassing signs posted), please enjoy the view from the road only.
If you enjoyed reading the articles or have any other information on the mystery, feel free to comment in your log.
