Geocache Description:

Wherigo caches are one of the least common yet most enjoyable cache types, as shown by the number of favourite points they collect.

Downloading and playing a Wherigo cartridge is not difficult. This event will take you through the process, from installing the player for your device, downloading the cartridge, hints for playing the game and logging it as “complete”.

Saturday 7 May 2016
The event program will run from 13:00 to about 17:30.

13:00 - Arrive and get settled
13:15 - Presentation: What is Wherigo?
13:45 - Practical: Download Player and Cartridge
Break
14:15 - Walk to nearby park to play a Wherigo cartridge.
The total distance is just over 2 km. Note that you do not have to take part in the walk to log the event.
Break
15:45 - Practical: Log cartridge at Wherigo.com
Break
16:30 - 17:30 - Time for further questions, socialising, catching up with friends and swapping & discovering trackables.
If time allows we can look at the programming behind the cartridge.

It will help things to run a lot more smoothly on the day if you can come equipped with the correct player app installed on your phone. Then we can concentrate on solving any problems before we go out for a practical session.
You can download the player for your device here:
iPhone / iPad
Android

We will play 2 cartridges on the day:
Wherigo Player Tutorial is a play-anywhere cartridge designed as an introduction to the basics of Wherigo.
ET Phone Home is a new wherigo which has not yet been published as a geocache. You are welcome to play the cartridge before the event, but you will only be able to log it as a cache if you sign the logsheet on the day or after publication.
It will help a lot if you can download these cartridges in preparation for the event. If you run into problems don't worry, we will sort it out on the day.

What to bring:

  • Your smartphone – please make sure the batteries are charged!
  • If you are using a compatible Garmin device please bring the interface cable.
  • Snacks to share during the breaks.

Thanks to Bruce for agreeing to host the event and for sharing his facilities with us.
