Welcome to the Silver Springs Conservation Area. Covering roughly 330 acres, the majority of the Silver Springs Conservation Area consists of upland woods with turkey oaks, longleaf pines and wiregrass. On any given day visitors might see whitetail deer, Sherman's fox squirrels, gopher tortoises, black racers, yellow rat snakes, rattlesnakes, northern cardinals, towhee and pileated woodpeckers. A short entrance road leads to a parking lot and kiosk with a map that shows three trails: Eagle Pass Trail around Eagle Pass and back, one-half mile; around Deer Track and back, 2¼ miles; and up the bypass and back, 1.9 miles. Free printed maps are in a brochure holder. Trails are for non-motorized use. Bicycle riders and walkers are welcome, along with dogs on leashes (plus owners who clean up after their pets). Advice printed at the kiosk includes carrying water; using bug spray; being aware of wildlife, including snakes and ticks; and staying on trails. The Area is open from dawn to dusk and it is free to visit.
