Geocache Description:

The cache is located in one of Gozo's most iconic bays, Mġarr ix-Xini. The name translates to "the carrying of the boats" and refers to a time in the past when pirates from the Barbary coast frequently raided Gozo and took away many Gozitans as slaves to be later sold. According to tradition, the pirates' ships used to enter in the bay and it was from here that most slaves were forced to embark them; hence the name.

The geocahce is hidden from a point where one can easily take nice photos of the outer part of the bay, including the guard tower built by the Knights of St John around th 17th Century, as well as enjoy one of the little developped bays in Gozo.

You can reach Imġarr ix-Xini by car by going to Sannat and then, either follow the road signs for "Imġarr ix-Xini", which will take you to the innermost part of the bay near the pebble beach, or you can follow the signs to Ta' Ċenċ and continue along another road which will take you to the other side of the geocache. First route offers scenic panoramas the valley leading to Mġarr ix-Xini while second route gives you panoramas of the southern part of the island.

IMP - The co-ordinates are SLIGHTLY off so as to give a bit of challenge. So be ready to extend search area for a further 4-5m radius, not more.
