Geocache Description:

If the trees could talk
What would they say?
How the times have changed
In so many ways
From recreation site to water source
And that's only in the recent past!
Thanks to its Regional Park status

Elk/Beaver Lake was one of five parks that made up the newly established Capital Regional District parks system in 1966. Take a look back in time!

Before becoming a regional park, Elk Lake was known as "The Freshwater Playground of Victoria". Today, it is one of the most highly visited parks in our region.

Before taking on its park status, Elk/Beaver Lake was the water supply for Victoria from 1879-1913. People complained of fish and tadpoles flowing from their taps so, in 1896, a filtration system known as the Filter Beds was built.

Find the nature centre to start
Then turn right on the 10 km trail that loops around the park
Your first right turn off the main trail
Will take you to the cache's locale
Past the nurse log and you're on your way
Keep to the left, don't stray
Look for the broken tree
