Shozaburo's Freewheelin' Cache Traditional Cache

Whether you bike, hike, or fly here, enjoy the outdoor experience that carried you to this cache. Initial swag includes Washington DC magnets, KT22 Squaw Valley stickers, several Hot Wheels, China Lake NAWS sticker, flashlight, and geocaching pirate tattoos.

This geocache is placed in honor of Shozaburo Shimano, the founder of the Shimano Iron Works. The humble beginnings of this cycling industry giant were built on the site of an old celluloid manufacturing site. For the monthly rent of 5 yen, he took a space of 40 square meters (about 430 square feet) to begin the production of "freewheel" hubs for bicycles. The freewheel mechanism provides a cyclist with the ability to stop pedaling while their bicycle is in motion. This cache is in honor of Shozaburo's humble beginnings, that spawned an industry dedicated to getting people outside and enjoying themselves on their bikes. Cache is located just off of the Mule Deer/Drop Down Trails, with a nice place to rest at GZ while you take in the view. The hike/bike up the Mule Deer Trail is strenuous, please pack enough water and sunscreen for the trip. There are several other caches in the area, so plan accordingly and make a day of it!!
