Geocache Description:

Welcome to the SPACE COAST GEO CHALLENGE!

This geocache is part of the Space Coast Geo Challenge. Anyone can claim this cache, but to be eligible for a Space Coast Geo Challenge geocoin, please follow the instructions at the bottom of this page.

About this geocache:

Park at the designated coordinates. Do not park along the Highway US1 roadside. The historical house is open to visitors Wednesday – Friday 10am-4pm. The geocache can be found at any time during daylight hours only.

In 1916 Atley Bensen paid $1200 for the lumber to build this house for his wife Clara Christensen. They were pioneer families of the town of Grant. This “cracker” house was donated to the Grant Historical Society in 1984. It was moved from its original site (approximately 300 feet south of 1st Street on the river bank) to this location in 1985. This location was the original site of Grant’s first house built in 1894 by “Honey” Smith, which burned down in the 1970’s. The Bensen House became a museum in 1987.

Permission for placement of this geocache was granted by the Grant Historical Society & Colleen Hribal.

This is a Letterbox type geocache, which includes a log and rubber stamp. What to do?  Bring your own stamp, ink pad and log book if you have one. Stamp the letterbox log with your personal stamp and stamp your personal log book with the cache's stamp. Don't have a stamp?  No problem, just sign the log as usual.

The cache contains a log book, stamper and ink pad which ABSOLUTELY MUST STAY WITH THIS CACHE. Please do not take these items with you.

GEO CHALLENGE INSTRUCTIONS & INFORMATION:

This Geo Challenge is sponsored by Florida’s Space Coast Office of Tourism. There are 20 geocaches listed in the tour. You will need to find a minimum of 15 to earn the trackable geocoin. There will be 10 denoted with an asterisk (**) in the name that will be required as part of your 15 finds. The remaining 5 will be your choice. Each geocache container will have a laminated card with the cache name printed on it. You will need to take a picture that includes you holding the card to identify that you are at each location. These pictures will need to be emailed to the account in which these caches are listed under (SpaceCoastGeoTour).

A custom geocoin will be awarded to the first 75 geocachers, while supplies last, for locating at least 15 SCGT caches. After completing the requirements and submitting your qualifying photos to the cache owner, you can claim your geocoin by visiting the store during business hours, home of A Cool Cache (GC15RQB). Coins will not be mailed.
