About this geocache:
Daylight caching only.
In 1889 Captain Alfred Wilcox took delivery of a shipment of steel rail that would be used to build the Melbourne & Atlantic Railroad. Railroad tracks were laid to connect the Indian River with the Atlantic Ocean. It started on the western end of the pier, running the distance of the pier and continuing in a straight path to the ocean. The railroad greatly improved ocean access for the increasing number of citizens and visitors in Brevard County.
Permissions for this geocache placement by Dan Roque, Public Works Director.
