Taranaki Anniversary Weekend 2016, 8 Members of the Stratford Girl Guide Unit completed the York Road Loop Track as part of their "Exploring" Unit Badge. In preparation for this walk we learnt about what to do when we get lost in the Bush, what gear we need to take, and how to look after ourselves. We found the Cache at the Entance to this walk (although the Girls found it first pop and it had taken me several attempts to find it) and we decided that we would like to put one out at the top end of the walk.
Like us, please be prepared when you do a bush walk by taking plenty of supplies, the correct clothing and footwear, telling someone where you are going (and letting them know when you have finished). Like all good Explorers we found a great tunnel which you can walk through, this is found at reference point 6. When walking to this cache if you do the entire loop track, the tunnel is just before the swing bridge (if you take the recommended left hand track at the crusher). We had plenty of maps with us the day we did this walk, but unfortuneatly the DOC Map was wrong (and we are going to tell them that!). When you get to reference point 6, you need to cross the little river and carry on the left hand side of the bank. Not much further on is the swing bridge and then the clearing (or foot station) where this cache is found. GPS was a but jumpy the day we placed it so hopefully the hint will point you in the right direction (or when you find this, let me know if I need to update co-ords and what they are!!).
