Resting among the oaks Traditional Cache
Please note Use of geocaching.com services is subject to the terms and conditions
in our disclaimer.
This is the last cache in the Burnt Trail caches we set. As you walk the trail, you will pass the final resting spot of people who made a life in these hills when things were very different than the life we know now. As you walk these trails take note that the first settlers had no gasoline, electricity, vehicles, or GPS units. They cleared the trees, made farms, did things that most modern people wouldn't dream of. The only remains we can see in these areas are the miles and miles of hand laid rock walls, some old rock foundations, and the occasional grave sites. Look at the dates and ages of some of the people resting there and try to imagine making a life from the land around you without the advances we have now. Note: For those who have done the other 5, or want to park closer, here are coordinates to the grave site. There is a small parking lot on the side of the road. N 42° 32.255 W 074° 28.940 42.53756 N 74.48241 W Enjoy this area as we do. The Long Path does continue well beyond this cache, plenty of space to explore! :)
