Educational Cache Info: (osage orange)
This cache is hidden near an osage orange tree. This species of tree, which is not related to orange trees at all, is not native to Ohio but was historically planted by farmers as natural fence rows and field barriers for cattle. Osage orange wood is very dense and withstands rot, and was highly prized for making bows. It has been said that the fruit of this tree, which resembles a bumpy green orange, has insect repellant properties, however this remains an old wive’s tale.
