Love Locked Traditional Cache

A quick trip down a paved trail, view of Mississippi River and should be an easy find.

This location features a current urban trend of displaying love locked eternal on public display. The history of love padlocks goes back at least 100 years, where two Serbians fell in love and were commited until the young man was called to war, wherein he fell in love with another woman.  The young girl who was left behind was heartbroken and forlorn and died as the engagement had been broken. Other young women from the village wanted to protect their love so they started writing their names with their loved one on padlocks and attached them to the bridge where the original young couple used to meet during their courtship.

This love lock phenomenon has gained popularity in the last 15 years with a bridge in Paris, Pont des Arts, being most recognized as ground zero.  Lovers would etch or write their name on the lock and toss the key into the Seine below. The popularity of lovers expressing their iron clad affection has led to an overwhelming number of locks attached to the bridgeworks where it has cause for concern for the safety of the structure due to weight and wear and tear.  Paris city workers have begun removing the locks and restoring the bridge to unadourned railings.  Who knows where the keys have ended up?  Be responsible in protecting your love!
