Geocache Description:

This area is busy on a Saturday morning as parkrun begins at 9am. The start is about 30 metres away so if you are here at the crack of dawn on a Saturday(!?) you'll still be able to search as long as you use stealth.
This small series contains caches of differing size and difficulty. They are all placed near to a path or just off of it. Parking is available by the café at the end of Strakers Road or in the surrounding streets.

In order to preserve some greenery in the area Peckham Rye was bought in 1868 and maintained as common land. It was here that an 8 year old William Blake had his vision of a cloud of angels in an oak tree. Homestall Farm stood where the park is now situated. It was purchased by the London County Council for £51,000 and the park was declared open on 14th May 1894. One of the first features of the new park was an ornamental 'Old English Garden.' It was later renamed the Sexby Garden after Colonel J.J.Sexby, the LCC's first chief officer of parks. During WW2 part of the common was used as a prisoner of war camp for Italian POWs. Their huts were pulled down as recently as 2009.

Take a stroll around the park. It has many features including a small lake, bowling green, oval garden, woodland walk and arboretum.

The café is open every day and there are toilets available.

Cache placed with the kind permission of Parks and Recreation, Southwark Council.
