First soviet series submarine, number two in production batch, laid up 5 March 1927,
launched 19 May 1929, comissioned to service 11 October 1931, served 1931-1946,
converted to training sub 1946, served as trainer 1946-1955, converted to submarine
emergency training station 1955, decomissioned 5 March 1987.
Museum was opened 2 September 1994.
Submarine has twin-hull riveted construction, hull was divided into 7 compartments,
2-shaft diesel-electric propulsion system, armament consists of 6 bow (6 spare torpedoes)
and 2 stern (no spare) 21"/533mm torpedo tubes, 100mm deck gun, and 45-mm AA-gun on the
bridge. Crew consist of 53 men. Torpedoes were 53-38 and 53-38U straight-run
steam-propelled torpedoes. Very primitive torpedo fire control system (almost as in WWI)
resulted in utimately low hit rate.
