Weather Station
Weston Park Weather Station is one of the longest, continuously recording weather stations in the UK. Elijah Howarth (1853 – 1938), the curator of Weston Park Museum, was selected to set up the station. He began recording at the station in September of 1882, and as such it is one of the longest serving weather stations in the country. In the 1890s, the Met Office took on Weston Park Weather Station as one of their official climatological stations.
The various instruments record temperature, air pressure, humidity, hours of sunshine, wind direction, wind speed and rainfall. If you would like to learn more about how the instruments work to record the weather, there is a small exhibit in the entrance to Weston Park Museum.
