In a world where the population is approximately 7.4 billion people, and approximately 50% of those people are female, there are a lot of stories that have gone untold. This cache series recognizes some amazing women and girls, and highlights their contributions to our planet...some large, some small, but all very important. Do you know all of these Mighty Girls? A Mighty Girl 5: Alaina Podmorow
Alaina Podmorow is a young woman from the Okanagan who, at the age of nine, was inspired to help girls in Afghanistan. Alaina began an organization called "Little Women for Little Women in Afghanistan" in 2007, in order to help girls to receive an education. From a very young age she recognized that it is incredibly important that girls, as well as boys, have access to bettering themselves and their families through education. In fact, her vision is summed up as "Education=Peace". Alaina's organization, and the many other groups which have been inspired by her, support education projects for girls and women in Afghanistan.
Now nearing the end of her high school career, Alaina has helped to raise approximately $500,000, and has used her voice and enthusiasm to do more than many of us will accomplish in our entire lives!
