Geocache Description:

This night cache is released to commemorate Earth Hour 2016 which falls on Saturday, 19 March 2016.

Wouldn't it be exciting to celebrate Earth Hour by doing some night geocaching - the first ever in Malaysia?

This night cache brings you to Bukit Gasing Forest Reserve. It is a 100 hectare stretch of green belt dividing the city of Petaling Jaya (Selangor state) from the Federal Territory of Kuala Lumpur. It was once a rubber estate but, in the intervening 60 years, the miraculous restorative powers of nature have been allowed to work their magic and the park is now a haven of lush secondary forest including some pretty large trees.

Being surrounded by heavily populated areas, Bukit Gasing is a popular place for nearby residents to stretch legs, get the lungs and heart working and sweat off any extra weight. There are a number of hiking trails within the park to suit all levels of energy and fitness. Peak hours where there will be a lot of muggles are in the morning and late evening, especially on weekends.

As this is a forest area, you are discouraged from going into it alone. So, why not bring a few friends (fellow geocachers or muggles) and share your geocaching adventure with them? You may park your car at the two waypoints listed on this page before heading to the trail head to begin your adventure.

You would need to be prepare with your torch-lights (with probably spare batteries), a pair of good hiking shoes, energy drinks, proper attire and insect repellent (as there would be a lot of mosquitoes at night). You may want to bring along some emergency equipment such as a first aid kit and a whistle. Mobile phones will be helpful also as there will be some coverage in the forest in case you need to make an emergency call out. As a word of caution, do respect the local residents living nearby (and maybe "residents" living inside the forest) by keeping your noise level down and watch your behaviour (you wouldn't want something else to follow you home).

The trail can be muddy and slippery after rain. So caution need to be taken when attempting this cache after a downpour. There may be some monkeys around as well but if you don't disturb them, they won't disturb you.

To reach GZ, you will need to follow the reflective stickers and hike about 15-20 minutes into the forest (prepare yourself to spend about an hour to go in and out of the forest). There will be a short uphill terrain and some slippery slopes. As you reach the GZ, you will find "Orion's belt". You will need to start searching for the cache which is placed within 15 metres from the marker.

The cache container is a small container which can hold a number of SWAGs and trackables. A special reward identifier is kept in the container for the FTF. To claim the real reward (a Geocaching t-shirt), the FTF will need to take a photo with the identifier and send it to the CO.

CONGRATULATIONS to Senzala D. Arara for being the FTF for this cache!!
